Business angel Filip Larsson today takes over the ownership, operation, and development of The Ground, which was founded 10 years ago by Hampus Jakobsson (TAT & Pale Blue Dot) and Karl-Anders Johansson (TAT & Modcam) with the aim of being a breeding ground for the next generation of successful companies. The acquisition is made through the property company Laris Fastigheter.
“It is a privilege to take over this inspiring place and we look forward to taking The Ground to the next level. It is about being the natural hub for entrepreneurs who challenge their industry; to innovate, develop, and celebrate success together. It will also be a place for us at Laris Fastigheter to test new technology for how the office environment of the future should function; facial recognition to open doors, a receptionist-free reception solution, and package deliveries that just work,” says Filip Larsson.
“We had lunch with Filip to bounce around some ideas on how we could best think about The Ground as property owners. But the more we talked, the more inspired we became to pass the baton to him. He is passionate about entrepreneurship, is involved in many exciting startup companies, and also understands property business. We are very happy that it is to Filip we are selling,” says Hampus Jakobsson.
This year marks 10 years since The Ground was founded. The milestone will be celebrated with a 10-year anniversary party, where all companies that have been based at The Ground will be invited.
“It might get crowded,” laughs Filip.
The Ground has until today been owned by the prominent figures Martin Gren (Grenspecialisten), Hampus Jakobsson (TAT, Pale Blue Dot), Karl-Anders Johansson (TAT, Modcam), Sami Niemi (Scalado), Per Grimberg (TAT), Ludvig Linge (TAT, angel investor), Jan Erik Solem (Polarrose, Mapillary), Anders Frankel (Apsis) & Johan Lenander (Aspiro, Barnsjukhuset Martina). In the transaction, both the properties and the community operations of The Ground change ownership.
Filip Larsson is an active business angel in Malmö and has been an early investor in companies such as Storytel, Debricked, OurGreenCar, 46elks, Joint Academy, and Doldadress. He has also founded Laris Fastigheter, a local real estate company in Malmö which, after the acquisition, has 8 properties housing approximately 130 tenants. In connection with the acquisition, he is also moving his own companies to The Ground.
The Ground at Bredgatan 4 in Malmö was founded in 2015 by serial entrepreneurs Hampus Jakobsson and Karl-Anders Johansson. A startup hub where many companies such as ModCam, Katam, MINUT, and Mapillary have been based in their early years.
The Ground is a total of 1249 sqm and the spaces consist of offices, co-working space, meeting rooms, and event space.
